エイミー・ワインハウスの遺族が慈善目的の基金を設立か

自己破壊的な行動でタブロイド紙の常連となっていた故エイミー・ワインハウス。だが遺族は、歌という素晴らしい才能に恵まれた彼女を、別の形で人々の記憶に残そうと考えている。

エイミーの父親のミッチさんは、7月26日にロンドンで営まれた葬儀の席で、「エイミー・ワインハウス基金」の設立計画を明らかにした。愛娘の死を知ったとき、仕事の関係でニューヨークに滞在していたというミッチさん。彼は葬儀の席で、弔問客にこう話したという。

「エイミーの訃報に接したとき、私はすぐに、子供や馬など、娘が愛したものを支援する団体『エイミー・ワインハウス基金』を設立しようと考えたのです。また、薬物の乱用に苦しんでいる人たちを助けたいとも思いました」

エイミーが生前、アルコールや薬物の依存症と闘っていたのは周知の事実。ミッチさんはそんなエイミーの状況も考慮に入れたのか、さらにこう続けた。

「イギリスでは、個人負担でリハビリ施設に入ることができないと、国民健康保険(NHS、National Health Service)による公的リハビリ施設の2年待ちのウェイティング・リストに名を連ねるしかないのです。国会議員のキース・ヴァス氏の協力も得て、私たちはこの現状を何とか打開したいと思っています」

突然の死で遺族の悲しみはいかばかりかと思うが、それでも娘と同じ苦しみを抱える人々を救おうとする彼らの思いには、ただ頭が下がるばかりだ。
