Over 300 tonnes of oil has leaked from Rena since it hit the reef on October 5.

LONDON, ENGLAND - JANUARY 04:  A penguin swims in its enclosure during a photocall to promote London Zoo's annual stock take of animals on January 4, 2012 in London, England. TAURANGA, NEW ZEALAND - OCTOBER 10: In this handout photo provided by Maritime New Zealand, an oil--covered penguin is cared for at a wildlife rehabilitation facility on October 10, 2011 in Tauranga, New Zealand. The 47,000 tonne Rena, a Liberan container vessel, struck a reef on Wednesday causing an oil leak that has spread over five kilometres. Authorities are preparing for the worst environmental disaster in New Zealand history should the vessel break up and spill 1,700 tonnes of fuel into the Bay of Plenty.

WELLINGTON, NEW ZEALAND - AUGUST 29:  The emperor penguin named "Happy Feet" stands in his container aboard NIWA's research vessel Tangaroa, at Burnham Wharf on August 29, 2011 in Wellington, New Zealand. The penguin was found at Peka Peka beach on the Kapiti Coast in June with concerns for his health. Wellington Zoo intervened and nursed the penguin back to good health.
