ビヨンセの名を冠した教科がラトガース大学に登場

ジェイ・Zがジョージタウン大学の社会学の教科名に使われたことに引き続き、妻のビヨンセもラトガース大学の女性及びジェンダー研究学部で「ビヨンセの政治化」として、教科名に使用されることが明らかになった。この教科では、ビヨンセの音楽とイメージについての社会的・文化的な意義について学んでいくようだ。

この教科の教鞭をとる同大学の博士論文提出資格者であるケビン・アラード氏は、大学のウェブサイト上で「この教科はビヨンセの政治上の関与を学ぶものではなく、またオバマ大統領の就任記念週間で彼女が何回パフォーマンスを行ったかなどについて学ぶものでもありません。彼女は現在様々な壁を乗り越える活躍をしています。他のアーティストが単純に音楽をリリースしているだけなのに対し、彼女は人生、キャリア、そして自分の人格にまつわる壮大なストーリーを生み出しているのです。生徒たちはただメディアを消費することから離れ、自分たちが常に何に取り囲まれているのかを、より批判的に見つめることが大切なのです」と解説している。

教科の詳細部分では、ビヨンセの別人格「サーシャ・フィアース」、ビヨンセの美学に対して彼女自身がどうコントロールしているのか、そして彼女のセクシーなイメージは女性の性的な自信を表しているのか、それともジェンダーに対するステレオタイプに乗じたものなのかなどについて研究していくことが明らかにされている。

この教科はビヨンセの名前が使用されているが、今後レディ・ガガやビリー・ホリデイ、ニーナ・シモンなどの女性アーティストも取り上げていく予定になっている。
