再結成したビーチ・ボーイズ、ブライアン含むオリジナルメンバー3人がクビ!?

活動50周年を祝して再結成ツアーを敢行し、全世界で絶賛の嵐を巻き起こしたビーチ・ボーイズ。しかし突然メンバーのマイク・ラヴがブライアン・ウィルソン、アル・ジャーディン、デヴィッド・マークスのオリジナルメンバー3人を "解雇" するという声明を発表し、アニバーサリー・イヤーを迎えた彼らの行く手に早くも暗雲が立ちこめている。しかもマイクの声明が発表されるまで、当の3人はこのことを知らされていなかったというのだ。

「50周年記念ツアー以降、ビーチ・ボーイズの活動にブライアン・ウィルソン、アル・ジャーディン、デヴィッド・マークスの3人は帯同しません。なぜなら今回行ったツアーは、これまでの活動の50周年を祝うものして始まったものであると同時に、この50年を締めくくる意味合いもあったからです」という内容のこの発表。これに対しブライアンは「あんなに楽しくツアーを一緒にやっていたのに、なんでマイクがあんなことを言うのか本当にわからない。そもそも僕らこそが本当のビーチ・ボーイズなのに」と＜CNN＞に対して漏らしている。ビーチ・ボーイズとしての活動を今後も続けてゆくことに意欲的だったブライアンは、唐突な今回の発表に困惑している様子だ。

しかし、実のところビーチ・ボーイズというバンドの権利を所有しているのはマイク・ラヴなのである。過去イーグルスの再結成が2年目にして大失敗しているのを間の当たりにし、何かとバンドの運営と名誉を守るため神経質になっているのかもしれないが、オリジナルの3人のいないビーチ・ボーイズを、ファンたちはどう受け止めるのだろうか。奇跡の再結成を果たした後ではなおさら納得いかないのではないだろうか...。
