ダース・ベイダーが新しい本拠地を視察!? 究極の悪役がディズニーランドで過ごした1日

米ウォルトディズニーがルーカスフィルムを買収することになり、それにともない『スター・ウォーズ』の新作、エピソード7が制作されることが先日発表されました。ファンの間ではこの動きに賛否両論ありますが、「僕たち昔から仲良しだったんだよ!」ということをアピールしたかったのか、ディズニーがこんなCMをリリースして話題を呼んでいます。


ダース・ベイダーのファンの中には、「これを恐れていたんだ!こんな姿は見たくなあーい!」と言う方もいるかも知れません。ストーム・トルーパーを従えてポップコーンを食べながら(どうやってマスクを通して食べるんでしょうね?)ディズニーランドを散策し、ティーカップやダンボに乗ってプリンセスパレードを見る暗黒のボスなんてありえない!...と思ってしまいそうですが、だから面白いこのCM、実は今回の取引が決まって作られたものではありません。

もともとこの映像は、ディズニーパークに1987年からある「スター・ツアーズ」アトラクションが去年リニューアルされ、3Dの「スター・ツアーズ:ザ・アドベンチャーズ・コンティニュー」となって公開された際のティーザー広告でした。設定は、「『スター・ツアーズ』がオープンするのを待っている間に、ダース・ベイダーいろいろ乗ってみる!」というもの。

それをディズニーは合併記念に編集して数日前に再リリースしたのですが、ルーカスフィルム/『スター・ウォーズ』買収のニュースにより関心が高まり、去年普通にCMとして放映された時よりもはるかに速いペースでSNS上でシェアされています。(去年6月の初回リリースから累計で669,000回シェアされていたのですが、再リリースからたったの1日で155,000回シェアされたとか。)

「映画の悪役ベスト〜」などという時は必ず上位5位以内に入るダース・ベイダー。彼の悪さに敬意を表して新しい映像も作って欲しいところですが、広報の面で言うと、ディズニーがこの合併で狙った"フォース"はもうかなり働いているようです。それがダークフォースかどうかは、これもまた意見が分かれるところなので言わないでおきましょう。
