"男の教科書"シルヴェスター・スタローンを筆頭に、ブルース・ウィリスやアーノルド・シュワルツェネッガー、ジェイソン・ステイサム、ジャン＝クロード・ヴァン・ダム、そして"レジェンド"チャック・ノリス...。そんな、アクション界から筋肉偏差値の高すぎる男たちが集結した『エクスペンダブルズ』シリーズ第3弾の監督が、ついに決まったようだ。
第1弾のスタローン、第2弾のサイモン・ウェストに代わり、新たにメガホンを取るのは2010年のサスペンス・アクション『レッド・ヒル（原題：Red Hill）』で長編監督デビューした、オーストラリア出身のパトリック・ヒューズ。今回の発表はスタローンが自らツイッターで発表した。

4月20日、まず「スゴイ監督を見つけたぜ」とツイートしたスタローン。
「ジョン・ウー（監督）は大好きなんだけど、今は中国で仕事してるからな...。第3弾には新顔かつスゴい奴が必要なのさ」
「つまりは"新しい血"を入れるってこと」
「監督はオーストラリア人の...」
「いや、メル（・ギブソン）じゃないよ。新進気鋭の人物で、2年前にスゴい作品を撮ったんだ」
などとジラしまくり、「奴はニューフェイスさ。最新の作品は"BLUE"ってよりも"RED"だった」と、親父ギャグ的にヒューズのデビュー作名をヒントとして挙げた。さらに、彼が2008年に発表した短編『SIGNS』も見るべきだ！と絶賛しているのだ。
というわけで、スタローンがイチオシの短編をどうぞ。

さて、肝心のストーリーのほうはまだ不明だが、スタローンは現在脚本の執筆に取りかかっているという。制作はミレニアム・フィルムズのアヴィ・ラーナーが務めるそうで、クランクインはこの夏になる見通しだ。キャストは常連組のほか、ウェズリー・スナイプスやジャッキー・チェンが参戦するという噂も！ とにかく、第3弾も"筋肉フェスティバル"になるのは間違いなさそうだ。
とにかく"新鮮さ"を求め、ほとんど無名に近い監督を抜擢したスタローン。キャストも含め、今後の展開が気になるところだ。
