「マン・オブ・スティール」新スーパーマンに直撃「期待してください」  (杉山すぴ豊)

あ!スーパーマンだ!と思わず叫んでしまいました!
先月、全世界待望の、新スーパーマン映画「マン・オブ・スティール」のスーパーマン/クラーク・ケントを演じる ヘンリー・カビルさんが、"弾丸よりも早く!"来日!インタビューする機会に恵まれました。
僕にとって、クリストファー・リーブ氏の「スーパーマン」が完璧すぎて、新スーパーマンをどう受けとめようか、との複雑な思いもあったのですが、僕らの目の前に現れたのは、僕が"イメージする、スーパーマンそのもの"の方でした!!!


デイリー・プラネット(=スーパーマンことクラーク・ケントが勤める新聞社)の記者のつもりで、新生スーパーマンにインタビューしてきました。

―「マン オブ スティール」は、本当に世界中のファンが楽しみにしている映画だと思います。そして、スーパーマンは、最も有名なヒーローでしょう。その大役を射止めたときの感想はいかがでしたか?

これは、役者にとって、一生思い出に残る瞬間であり、ずっと夢みたことでした。
とにかく、この役が欲しくて、欲しくて オーディション受けて、その結果を待っている。
そうしたら、監督のザック・スナイダーから電話があって「この"小さい"映画を一緒にやろう」って(笑) ずっと待ち望んでいたのに、その瞬間はボワっとして。そしたら、徐々に興奮してきて、家の階段を登ったり、おりたりしながら「僕が、スーパーマンだ!」と叫んでいました。それで、家族や友だちに、電話しまくったんだけど、皆 なぜか留守電で(笑) そのあとエージェントから「おめでとう!」の電話がきて、やっと現実に戻って、この喜びをかみしめました。

―逆に、この役を演じることのプレッシャーもあったのではないですか?
クリスチャン・ベールは、「ダークナイト」シリーズで、バットマンを演じるとき、「みんなが知っているキャラクターを、新しく演じるのは、大変なプレッシャーだ」と言っていました。あなたは、どうでしたか?


みんなが知っていて、とても大事にされ、シンボルであったキャラクターに新たな命を吹き込むというのは、大きなプレッシャーです。
でも、そのプレッシャーに負けてしまうことこそ、この役に対して失礼なことです。
僕は、他のヒーロー映画との比較ではなくて、とにかく原作コミックから、このキャラクターの精神を学びました。僕の好きなコトバですが「成功に集中しろ。失敗はなんとかなる」。そう、失敗するかも、というプレッシャーより、成功のためにどうするかに、時間も精神も集中することの方が大事です。
―今回のプロデューサー&脚本も手がけているクリストファー・ノーランや、監督のザック・スナイダーの、ビジョンやアイデアでビックリしたことはありますか?

ノーランもザックも、この誰もが知っている物語を、モダンで知的なものに仕上げようとしていました。"誰もが知っている、スーパーヒーローが活躍する"前に、こういう超人=スーパーヒーローではなく、スーパービーイングとも言うべき存在がいたら、人々はどう受け止めるか? そして、彼=スーパーマン自身も どう考え、苦悩するだろうか、この視点が素晴らしいと思います。

―スーパーマンは数あるヒーローの中で、もっとも空を飛ぶ姿がかっこいいヒーローだと思います。自分が、空飛ぶシーンの映像とか ご覧になったとき、どう思いましたか?

そうなんです。この映画がどんなに知的で、ドラマが良くても、観客の皆さんが、スーパーマンが飛んでいるシーンに、わー!とならなかったらダメですよね(笑) 僕も、スーパーマンの飛行シーンはエレガンスでパワフルなもの、と思ってました。
ただ撮影のときは、ワイヤーでつらされ、合成用のグリーン・スクリーンの前で撮影するわけです。それで、完成した映像みて驚きました! 僕が飛んでいる!!というよりスーパーマンが、本当に飛んでいる!!!!!なによりも、演じている僕が、スーパーマンが飛ぶところを信じられなかったら、観客の皆さんも信じてくれないわけです。でも、僕は十分信じることが出来た。期待してください!

―今回の「マン・オブ・スティール」で、スーパーマンの実の父親がラッセル・クロウ、育ての親がケビン・コスナーという"最強の父親"ですよね(笑) 名優2人と共演されていかがでしたか?

この役が決まっただけで最高なのに、共演者の方がすばらしくて、キャスティング情報が決まるたびにワクワクしてました!ラッセル・クロウ、ケビン・コスナーとも、「演じるとはなにか?」を熟知された、素晴らしい俳優でした。しかもとてもやさしくて、現場がとても楽しかったです。これからの自分のキャリアにおける、この仕事に対する態度や倫理を学べました。僕は、今後もジャンルにこだわらず、いいストーリーを、演技を通じて語っていける人になりたい。歴史物も好きです。今回、才能ある役者の方々との共演できた、この経験は、これからの自分にとっても宝物です。

―日本では公開まで、まだ3ケ月近くあります。「マン・オブ・スティール」のどんなところを楽しみにしていたらいいか、教えていただけますか?

まだ詳しくは言えないのですが(笑)、そうですね、初めてスーパーマンの物語が世に出たとき、当時の人々に与えた新鮮さ、驚き、感動と同じものを今度の「マン オブ スティール」はいまの時代の人々に与える作品になると思います。だから知的で、新しいのですが、原作の精神にとても忠実なのです。そして、これは大きなヒントになると思いますが、スーパーマンは希望(HOPE)のシンボルなのです。それはこの世界に対してもそうだし、
人間の精神に対してもです。そして"希望"と相反する"恐怖(ホラーではなく、フェア=不安の方でした)"にどう立ち向かうかの物語でもある。でも、スーパーマンは、希望なのです。

素敵な時間でした。
僕は例によって、赤と青のコーデで、スーパーマンのネクタイとNIKEのスーパーマン・コラボ モデルのスニーカーでインタビューに臨んだので、カビル氏にもウケてた(笑)

今度の「マン・オブ・スティール」は 知的で、現代的な映画であり、なにより希望を描いた物語である、ということを強調していました。
このスーパーマン=希望、という捕らえ方に「マン・オブ・スティール」への期待がさらに膨らみました。
僕はスパイダーマン、アイアンマン、ウルヴァリンが好きです。それは、彼らが自分とすごく似ているから。だから共感する。友だちのように思う。
でも、スーパーマンは、いつも憧れでした。スーパーマンに対してリスペクトの気持ちがあり、僕にとって「素晴らしい先生」のような存在。
今度のスーパーマンは、きっとまた 僕を導いてくれる予感がします。

そして、スーパーマン映画は、「人が飛ぶことを信じさせなきゃダメだよね」
というカビル氏のコメントにも大満足!

僕が愛してやまない、クリストファー・リーブ氏の「スーパーマン(78 日本公開79)」の宣伝コピーは"YOU CAN BELIEVE A MAN CAN FLY!=あなたは、人が空を飛べることを信じるだろう!"(日本では"あなたも、空を飛べる!"というコピーでした。この邦訳も素晴らしいと思う!)

新スーパーマンの飛行シーンを目撃するのが、待ちきれないです!!

そしてヘンリー・カビル氏が、完璧なスーパーマンに思えたのは、彼が、たくましさと優しさそして凛々しい目の持ち主だったことです!!

スクリーンで、ぜひ 彼の目をみてください。きっと希望の輝きがそこにあります!
