中日・高木監督の谷繁懲罰交代への批判に「落合なら絶賛されている」の声

日本人はイメージを引きずり、先入観で物事を判断する傾向にある。9日の中日対ソフトバンク戦(ナゴヤドーム)で、それを象徴するような出来事が起こった。


中日が1点をリードされた八回一死二、三塁で、投手・岡田がワイルドピッチ。しかし、捕手・谷繁はなぜか追いに行かず、二塁ランナーの生還まで許してしまった。このプレーに怒った高木守道監督は、すぐさま谷繁を交代。試合後、谷繁は「追わなかったおれが悪い。捕りにいかなかったから2点目が入った」と猛省した。



この件に関して、なぜか高木監督を非難する声が上がっている。「谷繁のプライドを考えろ」「谷繁は2千本打者だぞ」......。

しかし、この采配を落合博満前監督が振るっていても、そう批判するだろうか。「さすが、落合。聖域なし!」などと絶賛されたはずだ。

では、なぜ落合監督は評価され、高木監督は評価されづらいのか。
ひとえに、『高木守道=ダメ監督』、『落合博満=名将』というイメージがまとわりついているからにほかならない。

しかも、今季の高木監督は試合中のベンチ内で井端を叱ったり、「荒木はレギュラー剥奪」と報道陣に話してみたり、これまで中日を支えてきた功労者に対して冷酷な態度を取っている。

そして、今回の谷繁の懲罰交代が行なわれた。
この一連の流れがあったため、「谷繁を懲罰するなんて...」という意見が噴出してくるのだ。

だが、考えてもみてほしい。サイン違いという理由があろうが、こぼれているボールを追いかけない捕手は、もはやプロ野球選手とは呼べない。まして、谷繁という球史に名を残す素晴らしい選手だからこそ、あのような怠慢プレーをしてはいけない。みずからの栄光の歴史に泥を塗る行為だったのだ。事実、この日の『プロ野球ニュース2013』(CSフジテレビONE)で、横浜時代の恩師である大矢明彦氏は苦言を呈していた。

グランドに出れば、年齢やキャリアなど関係ない。谷繁というフィルターをかけずに、『ある捕手』と文字を変えれば、このプレー後の交代に異論は出ないはずだ。

たしかに、高木守道監督の選手操縦術には首を傾げたくなることが多い。だが、今回の谷繁の懲罰交代に関しては、もっと評価されてしかるべきである。
