SF映画などで時折目にする、近未来のコミュニケーション・デバイス。携帯電話もその1つだが、サムスン・モバイルからはこのほど待望のスマートウォッチ（ウェアラブル端末）"Galaxy Gear"が登場した。
サムスン・モバイルUSAが公開した、"Galaxy Gear"の3つのCM。『スター・トレック』シリーズをはじめ、『ディック・トレイシー』（アニメ版の邦題は『まんが探偵局』）、30世紀の宇宙が舞台の米テレビアニメ『宇宙家族ジェットソン』などのキャラクターらがスマートウォッチを身に着けている。

登場人物は皆、腕時計型の小型端末でコミュニケーションを取っている
最後にGalaxy Gearが登場、ついに現代のテクノロジーが過去の未来描写に追いついたのだ。
「Evolution」編では、バリエーション豊かな形状の小型端末が登場。
『スター・トレック』の端末はいま見てもスタイリッシュだし、『ナイトライダー』（1982年）や『プレデター』（1987）も懐かしい！ 日本ネタとしては輸出された戦隊モノ『パワーレンジャー』や『ジャイアントロボ』（海外版タイトルは『Johnny Sokko and His Flying Robot』）などが。
そして最後はGalaxy Gearを付けた男性が街に出て、サムスンのスマートフォン"Galaxy Note 3"との関係性をからめながら、通話やメールの送受信、カメラやビデオ撮影機能などを人々に紹介してまわる。
「In the Wild」編
男性「僕らは皆、未来にいるんだ。（未来は）僕の腕にある」
1本目の「A Long...」編は公開から2日で235万以上の再生回数を記録し、Galaxy Gearに対する人々の高い関心がうかがえる。一連の動画に対する評価はおおむね好意的だが、中には「で、肝心の防水や耐久性はどうなの？」という声もあるので、スペックについてはもう少し詳しい説明が必要だろう。
