125現役DJが語る ダンスミュージックとしての「ジャニーズソング」の可能性と魅力

ジャニーズ所属のアイドルグループといえば、言うまでもなく、そのファンのほとんどは女性だ。しかし、彼らがリリースしている楽曲に関しては、多くの男性も愛聴しているのが事実である。カラオケでSMAPや嵐の曲を歌ったことがないという男性は、むしろ少数派だろう。
では、そんなジャニーズソングの魅力とは何なのか？ 70年代・80年代のダンスクラシックから最新のクラブミュージックにまで精通していながら、普段はジャニーズソングを聴くことが多いというクラブDJのSさん（31歳）に尋ねてみた。Sさんは、このように語る。
「普段、クラブで回す時にはさすがにジャニーズの曲をかけるわけにはいかないんですけど、家ではよくジャニーズの曲をミックスして楽しんでます。録音したのを友達に聞かせたりすると、いつも大好評。あと、前に知り合いの結婚パーティーのDJを頼まれた時、新婦さんがジャニーズの大ファンだったんで、ずっとジャニーズの曲をかけたことがありました。ものすごく盛り上がりましたよ。ジャニーズソングって、実はクラブ的な空間に合うっていうか、DJ使用向きだと思うんですよね、僕は。」
― そう分析する理由は何ですか？
「一言で言えば、とにかくよく出来てるんですよね。
まず、歌から始まる曲が少なくて、多くの曲にちゃんと4小節から8小節のイントロが入ってるから、前の曲と繋ぎやすい。そして構成も、2回目のサビが終わった後にタメるような間奏が入ってる曲が多いんです。『ここで繋いでくれ！』ってメッセージを送られてるような気になりますね。さらに、終わり方もパシッと終わる曲がほとんど。フェードアウトで終わる曲が全然ないんです。おそらくこれは、テレビで披露するバージョンのことが最初から念頭に置かれてることによる結果だと思うんですけど、おかげでかなりかっこよく繋ぐことができますね。」
Sさんが特にDJ使用向きだと語るのは、SMAPと嵐というジャニーズの2大看板グループの楽曲だ。
「この2組には、クラブミュージックの原点っていわれる70年代のサルソウルレーベルとかアース・ウインド＆ファイアーみたいなディスコミュージックの流れを引き継いでる曲が特に多いと思いますね。まさに、"ジャニーズディスコ"です。ストリングスとかホーンが絶妙に効いてて、つい体を動かしたくなる。SMAPでいえば、『Dear WOMAN』とか『gift』とか『SHAKE』とか。嵐でいえば、『Step and Go』とか『駆け抜けろ!』とか『Troublemaker』とか。全部かっこよすぎです。」
しかしながら、J－POPをメインにしたようなイベントでもない限り、日本ではクラブにおいてジャニーズの曲がかかることはほとんどないというのが事実だ。Sさんは、「日本のクラブなんだから、日本でヒットしてる曲をかけてもなんの問題もないと思うんですけど...」としたうえで、次のように語る。
「ナイトシーンでもジャニーズの曲が普通にかかるような風潮になれば、音楽界全体にも良い影響があると思いますよ。日本では、"クラブ発のヒット曲"っていうのが存在しない。そこが変わると思うんです。良質な"踊れる"曲を出すアーティストが増えて、不況が否定できない音楽シーンに新たな可能性が生まれるはず。まずは自分自身、ジャニーズソングの地位向上に向けて活動したいです。」
