＜mashable.com＞によると、フェイスブックのCEOマーク・ザッカーバーグと妻のプリシラ・チャンは2012年、2013年と2年連続で、フェイスブックの1,800万株（9億7,000万ドル相当＝約1014億円）を慈善目的としてシリコンバレー・コミュニティー財団に寄贈した。億万長者はやっぱり、やることがケタ違いだ。
結果、ザッカーバーグとチャンは2013年の全米寄付番付で1位に。夫妻が2012年に同じく1,800万株を同財団に譲渡した際の相当額は5億ドル（約520億円）足らずだったが、1年後には株価変動の影響か倍増した。
番付の2位には、ナイキのフィル・ナイト会長とペネロープ夫人が5億ドルもの寄付でランクイン。実業家で、先月までニューヨーク市長を務めていたマイケル・ ブルームバーグは、母校のジョンズ・ホプキンス大学（医学で有名な名門大学）に贈った3億5,000万ドル（約370億円）で3位となった。以下、10位までは不動産関係者の名前が目立ち、また寄付先としてはイェールやスタンフォード、ミシガンなどの大学が多かった。
マーク・ザッカーバーグとプリシラ・チャンの慈善活動はこれだけではない。ザッカーバーグは2010年にはすでに「生涯にわたり、または自分の死後に自分の財産の半分以上を何らかの慈善事業に寄付する」という"Giving Pledge"にサインを済ませていた。これはマイクロソフト社の共同創業者で慈善活動でも知られるビル・ゲイツとメリンダ夫人、そしてバークシャー・ハサウェイの筆頭株主で「オマハの賢人」と称される米資産家ウォーレン・バフェットが始めた活動で、これまでに120人以上が参加しているそうだ。
