写真家として活躍するケント・フロスト氏が作成した、1年間のドキュメンタリーがYouTubeで話題となっている。
フロスト氏がYouTubeにアップしたのは、毎日欠かさずビデオを撮影し1日のぶんから1秒間だけ切り取り、それを1年（365日）ぶん編集したもの。自身の暮らしと家族、仕事、友人たち、そしてボストン市民マラソンでの爆破テロやネルソン・マンデラの死など、地元や世界中で起こった出来事の断片が1秒ずつ切り取られており、全6分少々で彼と彼の目を通した世界の1年間がよくわかる内容だ。
これは2012年バージョンに続いての2作目で、ごく個人的な試みでありながらも、観る者それぞれの1年間を思い出させる不思議な暖かさに満ちた作品となっている。
2013年、彼にとって1番の出来事は、なんと言っても妻の妊娠～出産だ。妊娠検査薬や病院でのカットに始まり、ついに出産に至るまでの場面がいくつも挿入されており、ラストは赤ん坊の泣き声で感動的に終わる。はじめから最後まで見終えると、なんだか他人の人生とは思えないような身近さを感じることだろう。
そういえば自分も昨年はいろいろあったなあ...なんて思い返したり、来年はどんな事があるだろう？ と自分の人生に思いを馳せてみたり。シンプルで何気ない一瞬の積み重ねで描く、かけがえのない人生の中の、1年。素朴でありながら素敵なアイデアによる、素晴らしい映像作品だ。
